How it works

Read a true story, do the small action paired with it, mark it done, and keep a private record of what you have done.

Read a story

Each day members get six items. Most are true accounts of people helping others, and at least one is a short piece about science or nature. Visitors see three of the six. Our team reviews every story before it appears and checks news stories against the original report.

Do the paired action

Each story comes with an action you can start the same day, such as joining a marrow registry or writing to an elder in a care home. Most actions happen on the organization's own site or in person, and for actions with no organization the steps are on the action's page. Members can press I'll do this to add an action to their list, or Save for tomorrow to have it come back once on a later day, with no other reminders.

Mark it done

When you finish, mark the action done and add a note or a photo if you want to. When you can, send the person or group you helped a link so they can reply; they don't need an account. Builders, the volunteers who help run the site, also post updates when an organization tells us what happened.

See your record

Every finished action goes into your record with any notes and replies attached, and you can download the record whenever you like. After you mark an action done you can also write a private note, which only you can see. The site has no public like counts and no leaderboards, and you can change how your stories are picked under Settings on your record, as How stories are chosen explains.

Money

Moved to Act never handles money. If an action involves giving, you give on the organization's own site, such as DonorsChoose or Every.org.
