A four-hour Be My Eyes call on Christmas Eve

Sarah Mielke, 38, lives on Manhattan's Upper West Side and volunteers through Be My Eyes, an app that connects blind and low-vision people with sighted volunteers over live video. One Christmas Eve she answered a call from an older blind man who wanted to put the papers from his life in date order. They worked through it together for about four hours, sorting birthday cards, photographs and keepsakes from his first date with his late wife. When his phone died, she found his landline number to say goodbye, and they traded contact details. She called the call "an inside peek" into his life.
