Kīlauea's lava fountains rose 600 feet in November 2025

On the afternoon of November 25, 2025, after several days of lava spilling from vents at the summit of Kīlauea in Hawaiʻi, the north vent began to fountain. The fountains climbed 500 to 600 feet and spread lava across a broad part of the crater floor, and early estimates put the volume at about 6 million cubic meters. It was episode 37 of a summit eruption that had come in bursts all year, each one tracked and photographed by scientists at the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.
