A letter carrier noticed three days of mail
Dori Carson delivers mail on South Drake Avenue in Chicago's Mount Greenwood neighborhood, and she knows which customers bring their mail in every day. After the Columbus Day weekend in 2024 she saw three days of mail and packages on the porch of a woman in her eighties who never let it sit. Carson knocked, got no answer, and told a neighbor, Peggy Mason, who called for a welfare check. Responders found the woman at the foot of her stairs, where she had fallen while changing a lightbulb and could not reach a phone. She went to the hospital and is recovering. Carson said people "need to look out for one another."
