A refugee interpreter volunteers her languages for others

Roza Tesfazion, 26, is an Eritrean refugee who now works as an interpreter for the UK government. She speaks Amharic and Tigrinya and studied English and Swahili in Kenya. In her spare time she volunteers on Tarjimly, an app that connects refugees with interpreters for appointments with doctors, social workers and immigration officials, at no cost to them. Many of the app's roughly 60,000 volunteers were refugees themselves, and referral partners include the International Rescue Committee and Catholic Charities. Tesfazion says good interpreting needs "that touch of human emotions."
